Thanisch is a renowned wine producer located in the heart of Germany's Mosel region. With a history dating back to 1650, the Thanisch family has been producing exceptional wines for generations, making them one of the oldest and most respected wineries in the Mosel. Their wines are highly sought after by wine connoisseurs and are a staple in many prestigious restaurants and wine shops around the world.
The Mosel region, also known as the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region, is located in western Germany along the Mosel River. It is known for its steep, terraced vineyards and cool climate, which are ideal for producing high-quality Riesling wines. The region's unique terroir, with its slate and quartzite soils, adds a distinct mineral character to the wines.
Thanisch's vineyards are located in the Bernkastel and Lieser areas, which are considered the best areas for Riesling production in the Mosel. The family owns and manages 8 hectares of vineyards, which are planted solely with Riesling grapes. They follow sustainable viticulture practices, using natural methods to nurture the vines and hand-harvesting the grapes to ensure only the best quality fruit is used in their wines.
The wines produced by Thanisch are a true reflection of the Mosel region, with a focus on elegance, purity, and expression of terroir. Their range includes dry, off-dry, and sweet Rieslings, each with its unique characteristics and flavor profiles. Their flagship wine, the Bernkasteler Doctor, is considered one of the finest Rieslings in the world, with its complex aromas of citrus, stone fruits, and minerals, and a long, lingering finish.
In addition to their traditional winemaking techniques, Thanisch has also embraced modern technology and innovation to ensure the best possible quality in their wines. They use gentle pressing methods and temperature-controlled fermentation to preserve the delicate aromas
