Château l'Eglise Clinet

Located in the prestigious Pomerol region of Bordeaux, Château l'Eglise Clinet is a renowned producer of high-quality wines. The estate has a long and rich history, dating back to the 19th century when it was owned by the Mauleon family. It was not until the mid-20th century that the estate gained recognition and acclaim, thanks to the efforts of Denis Durantou, who took over the estate in 1983.

Château l'Eglise Clinet is situated on the right bank of the Garonne river, just opposite the famous Saint-Émilion region. Pomerol is known for its unique terroir, with a mix of clay and gravel soils that create the perfect conditions for growing Merlot, the dominant grape variety in the region. The estate spans over 4.5 hectares of vineyards, with an average age of 45 years for the vines. The low-yielding vines produce grapes of exceptional quality, resulting in wines that are full-bodied, powerful, and complex.

The estate has been certified organic since 2010, with a strong commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure only the best fruit is used in the winemaking process. The wines are aged in a combination of new and old French oak barrels, allowing for a perfect balance between the fruit and oak flavors.

The flagship wine of Château l'Eglise Clinet is, of course, the eponymous Grand Vin, which is a blend of mostly Merlot with a small proportion of Cabernet Franc. The wine is known for its elegance, finesse, and complexity, with notes of dark berries, plums, and spices. The estate also produces a second wine, La Petite Église, which is a blend of younger vines and is more approachable in its youth.
