Cave de Ribeauvillé

Cave de Ribeauvillé is a cooperative winery based in Ribeauvillé, a historic wine village in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace, in northeastern France. It is one of the oldest wine cooperatives in France, founded in the late nineteenth century, and draws on grapes grown by member vignerons across the surrounding vineyards, including parcels within some of Alsace's classified Grand Cru sites.

Alsace is distinctive among French wine regions for producing almost entirely varietal wines, labeled by grape variety rather than by appellation blend. The region's continental climate, sheltered by the Vosges mountains to the west, produces wines with notable aromatic intensity and relatively high natural acidity. While Alsace is most closely associated with aromatic white varieties such as Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir is the sole red grape permitted under the Alsace appellation and has seen growing attention as winemakers refine their approach to the variety in the region's specific terroir.

Cave de Ribeauvillé produces a Pinot Noir under the Alsace appellation, available in a Kosher-certified Réserve bottling. Alsatian Pinot Noir tends toward a lighter to medium body with bright red fruit and a relatively delicate structure, shaped by the region's cooler growing conditions compared to Burgundy, where the same grape dominates.
