Drappier

Drappier is a prestigious champagne house located in the heart of the Côte des Bar region in the southern part of the Champagne appellation in France. The house has a rich history dating back to 1808 when it was founded by the Drappier family. Today, the house is still owned and managed by the descendants of the founder, making it one of the few family-owned and operated champagne houses in the region.

The Côte des Bar region, also known as the Aube, is the southernmost part of the Champagne appellation and is characterized by its rolling hills and limestone soils. This unique terroir gives the grapes grown in this region a distinct character, resulting in champagnes with a fuller body and richer flavor profile compared to those from the northern regions of Champagne. The Côte des Bar is also known for its Pinot Noir grapes, which are the main component in Drappier's champagnes.

Drappier is committed to sustainable and environmentally friendly winemaking practices, which is reflected in their certification as a "High Environmental Value" producer. They have been practicing organic viticulture for over 20 years, using no chemical fertilizers or pesticides in the vineyards. This commitment to sustainability is not only beneficial for the environment but also results in healthier and more flavorful grapes.

The house is best known for its flagship champagne, the Carte d'Or, which is a blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier grapes. This champagne is aged for a minimum of three years, resulting in a complex and well-balanced wine with notes of red fruit, brioche, and a long, elegant finish. Another notable champagne from Drappier is the Grande Sendrée, a vintage cuvée made from the best grapes of a single harvest. This champagne is aged for six years, resulting in a more intense and refined wine with notes of citrus, honey, and toasted almonds.
