Fruitiere Vinicole D'Arbois

La Fruitière Vinicole d'Arbois is a cooperative winery based in Arbois, in the Jura region of eastern France. Cooperatives have long played a significant role in Jura winemaking, pooling the harvests of local growers to produce wines under a shared structure. Arbois holds the distinction of being one of France's oldest appellations, and the town itself has strong historical ties to viticulture.

The Jura is perhaps best known for its oxidative white wines, and Arbois is the appellation most closely associated with Vin Jaune, one of France's most distinctive wine styles. Vin Jaune is made exclusively from Savagnin and aged for a minimum of six years and three months in old oak barrels under a film of yeast known as voile, a process that gives the wine its characteristic nutty, walnut-tinged, oxidative character. The resulting wine is bottled in the traditional 62cl clavelin, and is capable of extended cellaring.

The cooperative's current range includes a Vin Jaune from the Arbois appellation, produced from Savagnin — the grape variety indigenous to the Jura and central to the region's identity. Savagnin, when used for Vin Jaune, produces wines of considerable concentration and longevity, with flavours often compared to aged Sherry or dry walnuts, though the two wines are made by entirely different methods.
