Philipponnat

Philipponnat is a renowned Champagne producer that has been crafting exceptional sparkling wines since 1910. Located in the heart of the Champagne region in France, this family-owned house is known for its commitment to quality and tradition, producing some of the finest wines in the appellation.

The history of Philipponnat dates back to the early 16th century when the family purchased vineyards in the Champagne region. However, it wasn't until 1910 that the house was officially founded by Auguste and Pierre Philipponnat, who were passionate about creating exceptional wines. Today, the fifth generation of the family, led by Charles Philipponnat, continues to uphold the legacy of their ancestors and produce exceptional Champagnes.

One of the unique characteristics of Philipponnat is their use of a high proportion of Pinot Noir in their blends. This is due to their prime location in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, where the majority of their vineyards are situated. This results in rich and complex wines with a distinctive character that sets them apart from other Champagne houses.

Philipponnat is also known for its strict adherence to traditional winemaking methods, with a focus on quality over quantity. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected, and only the first pressing of the juice is used to ensure the highest quality. The wines are then aged in their historic cellars, located 50 feet underground, which provide the perfect conditions for the wines to develop and mature.

One of the most iconic wines from Philipponnat is their flagship Clos des Goisses, a single-vineyard Champagne made from a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. This wine is only produced in exceptional vintages and is highly sought after by Champagne lovers around the world.

In addition to their Clos des Goisses, Philipponnat also produces a range of other Champagnes, including their non-vintage Royale Réserve and the vintage Blanc de Noirs
