Roederer's 2015 Brut Vintage is beautiful, offering up aromas of pear, mirabelle plum, red berries, warm biscuits and smoke. Full-bodied, layered and elegantly muscular, it's seamless and complete, with terrific mid-palate depth and amplitude. Framed by bright acids and enlivened by a pinpoint mousse, it concludes with a penetrating finish. The blend is 70% Pinot Noir, emphasising Verzy, and pressure is a touch higher than in its more ethereal Blanc de Blancs counterpart.
Roederer’s white golden 2012 Brut Vintage is a classic Millésime. Based on 70% cool-climate Pinot Noir from Verzy and Verzenay (Montagne de Reims) and 30% Chardonnay from a very warm, south/southwest-facing vineyard in Chouilly (Côte des Blancs), the 2012 represents the mineral terroirs of its origins beautifully pure, refined, and fresh. Fermented 8% in oak and with just 16% of the volume having done malolactic fermentation to make the Roederer Brut Vintage a classic gastronomic wine, the 2012 shows a deep, rich, and ripe but also fine, precise, and elegant chalky nose with hazelnut, toasted almond, and blossom flavours. The palate is profound, round, highly elegant and fresh, and the long, remarkably salty finish is very complex and terribly fresh in its persistent mineral expression. This is an impressive, ripe, and almost creamy textured but precise and finessed 2012 with power, body, and structure. A true, highly stimulating classic. Just love it!
Roederer's newly released 2013 Brut Vintage is showing brilliantly, unwinding in the glass with a youthfully reserved but incipiently complex bouquet of crisp yellow orchard fruit, citrus zest, fresh bread, and honeycomb. Medium to full-bodied, deep, and concentrated, this is a tightly coiled, elegantly muscular Champagne, its layered core of fruit built around an incisive spine of acidity. Seamless and complete, this is an over-performing vintage that puts much prestige cuvées to shame. Built to age, it will reward patience.

Established at the end of the eighteenth century, Louis Roederer is one of the last great Champagne houses to remain independent and family-run. The estate was inherited by Louis Roederer in 1833, who gave it his name and forged the wine’s unique style, character and taste. Under his visionary leadership the fame and reputation of the house of Louis Roederer was firmly established.

Louis Roederer’s champagnes all share an attractive and direct expression and a dense, fresh, and sophisticated attack that develops into a sparkling and subtle bouquet. This is complemented by vivacious effervescence and delicious acidity. These sunny, pure, chiselled, and harmonious wines have a natural gift for creating pleasure: each wine has a unique way of embodying Louis Roederer’s distinctive style and constant quest for perfection.

In 1668, Dom Pérignon is said to have discovered how to make sparkling wine; today his technique is used the world over, although Champagne continues to make some of the finest. France’s most northerly wine region, Champagne is now home to 15,000 growers and 290 ‘houses’. A blend of grape varieties is usually required: white Chardonnay to add fruit and elegance, and two reds – Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier – to provide body and backbone.
