Tibouren

Tibouren is a dark-skinned grape variety native to Provence in southeastern France, where it has been cultivated for centuries. The variety thrives in the Mediterranean climate of the region, with its roots particularly deep in the Côtes de Provence appellation. Though Tibouren remains relatively obscure internationally, it holds cultural significance as a traditional component of Provençal rosé production, where it contributes to the region's distinctive wine identity.

In the glass, Tibouren typically expresses red fruit aromatics—strawberry and raspberry—alongside herbal and mineral notes characteristic of Provençal terroir. The grape produces wines with moderate alcohol and good acidity, making it well-suited to the pale, dry rosé style for which the region is known. It is rarely vinified as a varietal wine; instead, its role is as a blending component that adds structure and aromatic complexity to wines alongside more established varieties like Grenache, Cinsault, and Syrah.

Tibouren's primary expression remains in the rosés of Provence, where it appears in blends across both the Côtes de Provence and broader Méditerranée IGP classifications. These wines pair naturally with Mediterranean cuisine—seafood, salads, and lighter vegetable-based dishes—and are typically consumed young to capture their fresh fruit character and aromatic qualities.
