Located in the renowned Pomerol region of Bordeaux, Clos l'Eglise is a highly respected and prestigious wine producer. The estate has been in the same family for over a century, with the current owner being Hélène Garcin-Lévêque, who took over from her father in 2012.
The 5.5 hectare vineyard of Clos l'Eglise is situated on the famous Pomerol plateau, which is known for producing some of the most sought after wines in the world. The soil in this region is rich in clay and gravel, providing the perfect terroir for growing Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes, which are the primary varietals used in the production of Clos l'Eglise wines.
The winemaking at Clos l'Eglise is a delicate and precise process, with a focus on producing high quality, terroir-driven wines. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure only the best fruit is used in the production process. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for 18-20 months, allowing for the flavors and aromas to fully develop.
The flagship wine of Clos l'Eglise is their Pomerol Grand Vin, which is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. This wine is a true expression of the terroir and is highly regarded by wine critics and enthusiasts alike. It is a full-bodied wine with rich flavors of dark fruit, spice, and earth, and has a long finish that lingers on the palate.
In addition to their Grand Vin, Clos l'Eglise also produces a second wine called La Petite Eglise, which is made from younger vines and is a more approachable and affordable option. This wine still maintains the high quality and elegance of its older sibling, but is meant to be enjoyed in its youth.
